Trofeo Matteotti

The Trofeo Matteotti is a historic Italian one-day cycling race centred on Pescara and the surrounding hills of Abruzzo. First held in 1945, it emerged in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War and was named after Giacomo Matteotti, the Italian politician murdered in 1924. Its circuit combines the streets of Pescara with repeated climbs into the nearby hills, creating a race closely tied to its local geography.

Around the Peloton explores the Trofeo Matteotti through Pescara and the wider Abruzzo landscape, from the Adriatic coast to hillside communities overlooking the city. The race offers a route into the region’s modern history, culture and distinctive position between sea and Apennines, while tracing more than eighty years of professional cycling on the same roads.
