Tour de Okinawa 2026

The Tour de Okinawa 2026 takes place on 8 November, following a demanding 200-kilometre route starting and finishing in Nago, on the northern coast of Japan’s Okinawa Island. The race crosses the mountainous Yanbaru region, where steep forested roads, winding coastal sections and repeated changes in elevation create a challenging test of endurance. Far removed from Japan’s major metropolitan centres, the course reveals a subtropical landscape shaped by the Pacific Ocean, dense vegetation and isolated rural communities.

Around the Peloton follows the 2026 route through the natural and cultural heritage of northern Okinawa, exploring the UNESCO-listed forests of Yanbaru, the legacy of the independent Ryukyu Kingdom and the island’s distinctive maritime traditions. The journey also encounters the historical consequences of the Second World War and Okinawa’s complex relationship with mainland Japan. Beyond the competition, the race offers an opportunity to discover an island whose history, ecosystems and cultural identity differ profoundly from those of the Japanese mainland.
